Redbird trio earns spots on Missouri Valley Conference scholar-athlete teams

Three players from Illinois State University's Redbirds basketball team have been recognized for their academic and athletic achievements by being named to the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Scholar-Athlete Teams. The announcement was made by the conference office on Monday.

Johnny Kinziger, a business administration major with a 3.82 GPA, was selected for the First Team. He averages 15 points per game and has notable shooting percentages: 44% from the field, 39% from three-point range, and 89% from free throws. His performance includes being second on his team in both assists (90) and steals (30). Kinziger is ISU's first First-Team selection since Nick Zeisloft in the 2013-14 season.

Dalton Banks, who graduated with a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies and is currently pursuing a sports management graduate program with a 3.80 GPA, was named to the Third Team. Banks ranks second in MVC steals with 55 and averages 9.9 points per game this season. He recently reached his milestone of scoring his 1,000th career collegiate point and leads his team with 114 assists.

Landon Wolf, also named to the Third Team, is studying business administration with a GPA of 3.83. He has played all 31 games this season, averaging 6.8 points per game along with recording significant stats such as 101 rebounds, 25 assists, and making over one-third of his long-range shots at a rate of 37.5%.

The Redbirds hold an overall record of 18-13 and finished their MVC play at an even mark of ten wins against ten losses. They have secured the fifth seed for the upcoming MVC Tournament where they will compete against Missouri State Bears on Thursday at Enterprise Center.
