Illinois State University's sophomore forward, Chase Walker, has been appointed Captain of the Most Improved Team by the Missouri Valley Conference. Meanwhile, Jack Daugherty received recognition as part of the All-Bench Team. This announcement was made by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
Walker joins a notable group of former Redbirds who have previously held the title of Most Improved Team Captain, such as Antonio Reeves and MiKyle McIntosh. This season, Walker leads his team in scoring with an average of 15.1 points per game and rebounding at 6.0 per game. He has improved significantly across all primary statistics compared to last year.
Jack Daugherty has played in 29 games this season, averaging 6.8 points per game despite starting only twice. He has made 56 three-point baskets this season, tying for fourth-most by a Redbird freshman in program history.
Both Walker and Daugherty join Johnny Kinziger, Landon Wolf, and Dalton Banks as MVC Award recipients after they were named to the All-Scholar-Athlete squad earlier this week.
The Illinois State Redbirds are set to play against Missouri State Bears in the opening round of the 2025 Missouri Valley Tournament on Thursday afternoon.
