The Illinois State women's tennis team, currently holding a 6-5 record, is set to travel to California for matches against Utah State and UC-Irvine. The games will take place inside UCI Stadium.
In their last outing, the Redbirds faced a defeat in a non-conference match against SIUE, with a final score of 4-2. This match took place on March 7 at the Edwardsville Y Meyer Center. During doubles play, juniors Silvia Pomarolli and Lana Caculovic secured a victory over Amelia Gorman and Cydney Rogers with a score of 6-4. Additionally, freshman Nicole Iosio and junior Nuria Sanz triumphed over Paige Duncan and Chloe Koons by the same scoreline.
In singles competition, Caculovic managed to win against Margaux Britt Guibal from the Cougars with scores of 6-0, 7-6 at the No. 2 position.
Utah State's team recently claimed victory against Idaho State on February 26 in Pocatello, ID, winning narrowly by 4-3. In doubles play at No. 2, Indya Nespor and Cielo Cruz-Tapia defeated Millie Day and Sydney Morris with a score of 6-3. Nespor also won her singles match against Stefanya Shalakhova in straight sets with scores of 6-4, 6-3.
UC-Irvine comes off a successful sweep against the UTEP Roadrunners on March 2 at El Paso Tennis Club. Yen Nhi Huynh won her singles match at No. 3 against Paloma Hennicaux with scores of 6-2, 6-0. The top doubles pair Kayla Meraz and Amanda Perez defeated Carlotta Mencaglia and Hanna Telzynska from UTEP by a final score of 6-3.
Following their California trip, Illinois State will face Bradley University in Peoria for the I-74 rivalry on March 22 at 1 p.m.
