The Illinois State women's tennis team faced a setback in their match against Utah State, losing 6-1 on March 10 in Los Angeles. This result brings the Redbirds' season record to 6-6, while Utah State improves to 5-5.
Despite the overall loss, junior Nuria Sanz and freshman Nicole Iosio secured a victory for Illinois State at No. 3 doubles with a score of 6-3. In singles competition, graduate student Elena Jankulovska achieved a hard-fought win at the No. 5 position, overcoming her opponent with scores of 0-6, 7-6 (3), and 1-0 (10-8).
The doubles matches saw Utah State's Olivia Halvorsen and Niyati Kukreti defeat Lana Caculovic and Silvia Pomarolli of Illinois State with a score of 6-2 at No. 1. At No. 2 doubles, Indya Nespor and Cielo Tapia-Cruz from Utah State won against Emma Lindh and Elena Jankulovska with a score of 6-3.
In singles play, Utah State's Indya Nespor defeated Silvia Pomarolli in three sets: 6-7 (3), 6-4, and 1-0 (10-8). Olivia Halvorsen overcame Lana Caculovic at No. 2 singles with scores of 1-6, 6-4, and 1-0. Niyati Kukreti secured another point for Utah State by defeating Emma Lindh at No. 3 singles with scores of 6-0 and 6-2.
At the No.4 position, Natalie Paterova from Utah State triumphed over Nuria Sanz with scores of 6-1 and 7-5. Finally, Maria Paula Ramos Garcia sealed the victory for Utah State by defeating Nicole Iosio at No.6 singles with scores of 6-3, 4-6, and 6-2.
Illinois State will continue their California tour as they face the University of California Irvine on March11 at2 p.m.
