The Illinois Wesleyan University men's basketball team is set to compete in the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament. The Titans, ranked ninth, will face off against the fifth-ranked University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on March 14 at Mitchell Hall. This marks Illinois Wesleyan's first appearance in the Sweet Sixteen since 2022.
Illinois Wesleyan extended its season with victories over Bethany Lutheran College and St. John's University. Meanwhile, UW-La Crosse advanced with wins against Greenville University and St. Norbert College. Other teams competing include WashU and Wisconsin Lutheran College.
Broadcast coverage for the game will be provided by Eric Stock and Joel Swanson on WESN radio, while viewers can watch online via NCAA.com or through the NCAA Championship Pass app.
Illinois Wesleyan stands out as one of only two Division III schools to have both men's and women's basketball teams advance to this stage of the tournament. Additionally, junior Karlo Colak played a crucial role in their victory over St. John's with a last-second shot.
The Titans have demonstrated strong offensive capabilities, scoring over 100 points in their opening round win against Bethany Lutheran. Senior Hakim Williams has also been instrumental, achieving a career-high 10 assists earlier this season.
Under head coach Ron Rose, now in his 18th season, Illinois Wesleyan has accumulated an impressive record including multiple conference titles. Freshman Josh Fridman and Nick Roper have made significant contributions to the team's success this season.
The winner of Friday's game will move on to face either WashU or Wisconsin Lutheran in the Elite Eight on Saturday.
