The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team experienced its first defeat of the season against Colorado College on March 12, with a final score of 19-11. This loss ends the Titans' six-game winning streak, bringing their record to 6-1, while Colorado College improves to 5-3.

In terms of game statistics, Colorado College led in several areas including shots (63-46), extra-man goals (3-0), ground balls (49-33), faceoff wins (18-16), and caused turnovers (11-6). Despite these challenges, Illinois Wesleyan had a slight edge in saves, with senior Colin Tervo recording 15 saves compared to the Tigers' 14.

Sophomore Timothy McHugh and fifth-year Gage Black were key players for the Titans, each contributing three points. McHugh scored all his points through goals, while Black added two goals and an assist. Senior Nick Schroeder led the team with six ground balls and was successful in 15 out of 26 faceoffs. Senior Nick Horrocks contributed two caused turnovers and two ground ball recoveries.

Colorado College began strongly by scoring the first five goals of the match. Fifth-year Bob Boone managed to score for Illinois Wesleyan late in the first period, reducing CC's lead to 5-1. The Titans continued to fight back with contributions from various players but could not close the gap significantly as CC maintained control throughout most of the game.

Senior Jake Gisi opened scoring in the second period with a long-range goal—his first of the season—and Black followed up with another goal that brought IWU within one point at 7-6. However, Colorado College responded with a six-goal run leading into halftime.

McHugh achieved a hat trick early in the second half despite facing tough defense from CC. Although IWU managed additional goals from Billy McHugh and Nate Pound among others, they ultimately fell short as Colorado College secured victory.

Illinois Wesleyan is set to play again on March 14 against Ursinus College at Washburn Field.
