Southern Illinois defeats Illinois State 3-0 in MVC series

Illinois State University faced a tough challenge against Southern Illinois, falling 3-0 in the second game of their Missouri Valley Conference series. The Salukis, now with a record of 10-14 and 2-0 in the MVC, proved formidable on the mound for the second consecutive day, overpowering the Redbirds who stand at 6-20 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

In terms of offensive performance, Delainey Bryant stood out for Illinois State, going 3-for-4. Other contributors included Adisyn Hopkins (1-for-3), Bella Wilkerson (1-for-2), and Addison Masching (1-for-3).

On the pitching side, Hannah Meeks took the loss with two innings pitched, allowing two hits and one unearned run. Gracelyn Kemp followed with a brief appearance, giving up two earned runs on two hits. Hannah Meshnick provided some stability with 3.2 innings of scoreless relief.

The game saw Southern Illinois take an early lead in the first inning through a sacrifice fly that brought Lee home from third base. They extended their advantage in the third inning with an RBI single by Williams and an RBI groundout by Baker. McKenzie Newcomb played a crucial role for SIU by securing the win as a reliever, allowing no runs on four hits.

The series will conclude on Sunday at Charlotte West Stadium with a noon start time.
