Illinois State University's softball team faced a tough challenge against Southern Illinois, concluding their series with an 8-4 loss. Despite showing offensive promise with nine hits and four runs, the Redbirds couldn't overcome a decisive six-run inning by the Salukis.

The Redbirds' standout performer was Tatum Wolford, who went 2-for-3 and hit her first home run of the season. Julia Larson and Abby Knight also contributed to the offense with two hits each. Pitching efforts were led by Paige McLeod and Hannah Meshnick, who together managed seven strikeouts but couldn't prevent the early deficit from affecting the outcome.

"The Redbirds had to fight back from an early deficit," as noted in the game recap. The Salukis capitalized on a strong second inning to take a commanding lead that Illinois State struggled to close.

Looking ahead, Illinois State will return home after 27 road games for their first home series against Belmont at Marian Kneer Stadium. The three-game series starts Friday at 5 p.m., followed by Saturday's game at 2 p.m., and concludes Sunday at noon.
