Illinois State University's women's tennis team is set to face Chicago State on Wednesday at noon. The match, taking place at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, serves as a rescheduled contest from earlier this season.
This encounter marks the tenth meeting between Illinois State and Chicago State, with Illinois State holding a 9-0 record against their opponents. Their first meeting occurred on February 7, 2016, when Illinois State secured a 7-0 victory by sweeping singles play and winning the doubles point.
In their last outing, Illinois State faced Utah State in Los Angeles on March 10, where they were defeated 6-1. Despite losing the doubles point to Utah State, junior Nuria Sanz and freshman Nicole Iosio managed a win at No. 3 doubles with a score of 6-3. In singles play, graduate student Elena Jankulovska earned a hard-fought victory at the No. 5 position with scores of 0-6, 7-6 (3), and 1-0 (10-8).
Chicago State recently lost to Eastern Michigan with a score of 4-0 on March 8. The Cougars have also competed against Big Ten teams Indiana and Illinois this year. In the previous season, Chicago State achieved an overall record of 16-13 and went 5-1 in the Horizon League. They advanced to the NCAA First Round but were defeated by Michigan Wolverines with a final score of 4-0.
Following Wednesday's match, Illinois State will return to outdoor play for two consecutive matches against UNI on March 29 and Drake Bulldogs on March 30 at Gregory Street Tennis Courts.
