House Bill 2827, a contentious proposal imposing new mandates on homeschool families, has advanced through the House Education Policy committee. The vote saw all Republican members opposing the bill. It will now proceed to the House floor for further consideration.
"If this bill comes up for a vote in the next few weeks I will be voting No," a statement read. Notably, over 40,000 individuals in Illinois have expressed their opposition by filing witness slips against the proposed legislation.
The deadline for advancing House bills to the Senate is set for April 11.
In related news, several families from one district traveled to Springfield to attend the committee hearing. "I would also like to thank the families from my district that made their way to Springfield today for the committee hearing," another statement noted.
For those who wish to oppose this bill further, there is an opportunity to sign a petition against it.
