Senior Griffin Pohl from Illinois Wesleyan University led the field after the first round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational at Pine Lakes Golf Club. The Illinois Wesleyan men's golf team secured a four-stroke lead with an opening round score of 284 on the par-72, 6700-yard course.
Pohl scored a six-under 66, including five birdies and an eagle on the 18th hole, tying for first place in a field of 150 players. Junior Michael Spitzer and freshman Pablo Castro both posted even-par rounds of 72, tying for 16th place.
Illinois Wesleyan leads among the 30 teams with a score of 284. Emory is second with a score of 288, while Sewanee and Amherst are tied for third at 289.
In the individual tournament, junior Juney Bai carries a three-stroke lead into the second day after shooting a three-under-par round of 69.

The latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division III Coaches Poll was announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Illinois Wesleyan's men's golf team remains fourth with 389 points. Methodist took first place with 447 points and Washington & Lee moved to second. Sewanee climbed to third place with Emory just behind Illinois Wesleyan in fifth.
Illinois Wesleyan returned to competition today after not competing since fall. They have won two tournaments this season: Heartland Invite and Wabash Invite. They were runners-up at NCAA Division III Preview and placed fourth at Folds of Honor.
Individual results for Illinois Wesleyan include Griffin Pohl tied for first with a score of 66, Michael Spitzer and Pablo Castro tied for 16th with scores of 72 each, Quinn Clifford tied for 49th with a score of 74, and Aidan Healy tied for 97th with a score of 77. Juney Bai leads in the individual tournament with a score of 69.
Team standings show Illinois Wesleyan leading at 284, followed by Emory at 288, Sewanee and Amherst tied at third with scores of 289 each.
