Illinois Wesleyan men's lacrosse stages comeback win over Calvin

The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team staged a comeback victory against Calvin University on March 22 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Titans overcame a five-goal deficit to secure an 18-15 win, bringing their season record to 7-2.

Sophomore Timothy McHugh played a crucial role in the victory with a career-best performance, contributing nine points through five goals and four assists. "Timothy McHugh (Orland Park, Ill.-Mount Carmel)" led the offensive effort alongside teammates Ike Eastburn and Noah Dretzka, who added significant points to the scoreboard.

In faceoffs, senior Nick Schroeder achieved an 18-for-29 record while collecting 11 ground balls. Junior Karsten Nordlie matched his personal best with seven ground balls, followed by senior Sam Skelton with five.

Defensively, junior Billy McHugh made notable contributions with five caused turnovers. Skelton added four caused turnovers and senior Nick Horrocks contributed three.

Goalkeeper Colin Tervo was instrumental for Illinois Wesleyan, making 12 saves over the full duration of the match. The team outperformed Calvin in several key areas including shots on goal and faceoff wins.

Despite falling behind early in the game, Illinois Wesleyan leveled the score multiple times before taking their first lead in the fourth quarter at 14:49. A sequence of goals from Eastburn, Nordlie, and T. McHugh helped solidify their lead late in the game.

The Titans will next play Adrian College on March 29 at Tucci Stadium following a women's lacrosse match against Wooster.
