The Illinois State track and field team finished competitions at three locations on Thursday. Events were held at the 97th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, Bobcat Invitational, and the WashU Distance Carnival.
At the Texas Relays, senior Kiley Sanders completed the women's heptathlon with a personal best score of 4,757 points, achieving personal records in the 100m hurdles and 200m races. Sophomore Ryan Schaefer set a personal best in the men’s decathlon, scoring 6,607 points, placing 17th, and moving to seventh in the program’s history.
Despite challenging weather at the Bobcat Invitational, junior Enyinnaya Nwagwu Jr. ran the men's 200m in 21.35 seconds, finishing fifth. Freshman Zach Paul marked 22.50 seconds, coming in 40th, while sophomore Chavi Flowers finished 18th in the women's 200m with a time of 24.91 seconds.
In St. Louis at the WashU Distance Carnival, junior Maggie Reed ran the women's 5k in a personal best time of 17:01, placing fourth. Junior Yusuf Baig also ran a personal best of 14:12.30 in the men's 5k, securing tenth place. Senior Zack Loomis led the Redbirds in the men’s 10k with his best mark of 29:51, finishing 11th, and senior Nick Doud placed 20th with a time of 30:10.
Further activities will continue on Friday, including the Redbirds’ home outdoor opener starting at 2 p.m.
