The Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team is set to play against Carthage College this Saturday, March 29, for a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match. The game is scheduled to take place at Tarble Arena at 3 p.m.
Illinois Wesleyan arrives at the match with a record of 12-9 overall, and a 2-5 score in the CCIW games. In their most recent match, the team was defeated in straight sets by North Central College on March 22. Freshman Ethan Kuziela made an impact with 10 kills and a .500 attack percentage. Senior Vince DiCosola contributed with 14 assists. Additionally, Kuziela, DiCosola, and sophomore Bryce Williams each achieved five digs. Senior Jake Kougan led the blocking efforts with two blocks.
This season, the IWU offense is led by Bryce Williams, who has recorded 198 kills with a .214 attack percentage, averaging 2.91 kills per set. Freshman Gavin Rohlwing follows with 145 kills and a .336 attack percentage, and Ethan Kuziela has 141 kills. In serving, sophomore Brenden Reutter has 22 aces, leading the team in this category, while Williams and freshman Ben Zima have contributed 16 and 10 aces respectively.
On the defensive end, junior Jace Milka tops the team with 147 digs, averaging 1.91 per set. Williams is not far behind with 122 digs, and Reutter has 116. Rohlwing leads in blocks, with 81 this season, and his average of 1.13 blocks per set places him first in the CCIW and sixth nationally. Kougan and Reutter have 39 and 34 blocks respectively.
The upcoming match will be the tenth between IWU and Carthage, with Carthage winning the past nine games. In their last encounter on February 22, Rohlwing was the top performer for IWU with eight kills and a .583 attack percentage, and Reutter delivered 18 assists. Each of four Titans recorded four digs, while Kougan achieved two blocks. Carthage is entering the game following a victory against Loras College on March 22.
