The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has initiated a road construction project on Route 116 through Pontiac. The construction will span from Ewing Drive, just west of Interstate 55, to the bridge over the Vermilion River. This includes a section of Illinois 116 that intersects with Old Route 66.

The project encompasses a range of tasks such as road patching, milling and resurfacing, reconstructing ADA sidewalk ramps and curbs, as well as traffic signal and drainage repairs. Additionally, the intersection of Illinois 116 and Old Route 66 will see improvements. During this $7.2 million project, one lane in each direction will remain open, with the project slated for completion by November.
