Illinois State University has extended the contract of head football coach Brock Spack through the 2027 season, as announced by the school's Director of Athletics, Dr. Jeri Beggs. Since taking the head coaching position at Illinois State, Spack has maintained a winning program, posting an overall record of 111-74. He has led the team to a .500 or better record in 13 of his 16 seasons, including notable successes such as reaching the FCS National Championship game in 2014.
"Brock has been a pillar of success and consistency at Illinois State for 16 seasons and has raised the stature of our program nationally into one that has the chance to make the playoffs every season," Beggs remarked on Spack's contract extension. She further emphasized his influence as a mentor and his role in the future growth of the program.
Spack expressed gratitude for the extension, highlighting the support from Illinois State University officials. "I am deeply grateful for the continued support from Illinois State University Athletic Director Dr. Jeri Beggs, Deputy Athletic Director Paul Kabbes, and Illinois State University President Dr. Tarhule in providing me with a contract extension," Spack stated. He acknowledged the significant commitment shown by the university towards the football program.
In his career at Illinois State, Spack has reached several milestones, including breaking the school win record previously held by Edwin Struck and becoming the fourth coach in Missouri Valley Football Conference history to achieve 100 wins at a league school. The Redbirds have notably strong records at home, with a 67-24 tally at Hancock Stadium under Spack's leadership.
The team's achievements in the 2024 season, reaching the postseason and defeating Southeast Missouri State, further testifies to Spack's effectiveness. Eleven Redbirds attained All-MVFC status, with two players earning FCS All-American honors. Over the years, Spack has helped numerous players gain recognition, with a number moving on to professional careers, including selections in the NFL Draft.
The well-being of student-athletes also remains a priority, with the football team setting a record for grade-point averages during the Spring 2024 semester. Coach Spack's track record indicates continued success and growth for Illinois State University's football program as he prepares for the upcoming seasons.
