BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team faced defeat against Millikin University in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin on Wednesday, April 16, with a final score of 6-1. This loss brings the Titans' season record to 5-11 overall, and 1-4 within the conference, while Millikin's record improves to 8-7 and the same conference standing of 1-4.
Juniors Ian Turnbull and Ben Vigneri secured the only victory for Illinois Wesleyan in doubles competition at the No. 1 position, winning 6-3. However, Illinois Wesleyan could not take any more wins in the paired matches, concluding in a one-point decision.
Turnbull also claimed a victory for Illinois Wesleyan at No. 1 singles, securing a win with set scores of 6-2, 6-3. The remainder of the matches did not favor the Titans, as they lost two super tiebreakers. Vigneri and sophomore Thad Dillow experienced narrow defeats in singles. Vigneri initially took a set 6-4, but lost the next set 6-1 and then narrowly lost the super tiebreaker 11-9. Similarly, Dillow won the first set 6-4 but lost the subsequent set by the same score and could not clinch the super tiebreaker, falling 10-3.
Looking ahead, the Titans prepare for a visit to North Central College for another CCIW matchup on Saturday, April 19, with play scheduled at 10 a.m. at the Naperville Tennis Club.
