Horenberger Baseball Field | Illinois Wesleyan Titans
The Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) baseball team is gearing up for two games this week. After securing a perfect 4-0 record last week, the team will face Millikin University and Eastern Illinois University (EIU). The game against Millikin is scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, at 5 p.m., and it will be held at IWU's home field. The following day, the Titans will head to Charleston, Illinois, for a match against Division I EIU, set to begin at 3 p.m.
The Green and White had a successful previous week, beginning with a 9-3 victory over North Central and winning a series against Wheaton College with scores of 14-13, 6-4, and 11-8. A highlight from game one was freshman Matt Hudik's decisive run in extra innings. Game three showcased senior Justin Gadomski and junior Gage Wolfe's strong performances, each garnering 3-for-5 at bat. Gadomski contributed two doubles, a run, and an RBI, while Wolfe added a double and two RBIs. Sophomore John Philip Ferraro also played a significant role, hitting a 2-for-4 and scoring a run.
IWU and Millikin have faced off multiple times since 1988, with IWU leading the series at 81-41. Although Millikin has had the upper hand in recent matches, Illinois Wesleyan claimed the last meeting on April 3, 2025, with a 7-2 victory. Pitcher Jake Pullam made a strong showing in that game, striking out three over seven innings. Relievers Jack Flagg and Cole Shamhart also added to the team's defensive effort.
The history between IWU and EIU dates back only to 2022. EIU is currently on a four-game winning streak, having recently swept Tennessee Tech. The upcoming game will provide an opportunity for IWU to improve its standing against EIU, as they have lost both previous encounters.
In the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin standings, Illinois Wesleyan currently sits in second place behind Carthage College, although IWU has a higher batting average (.341) compared to Carthage's (.319). Senior Cade Tomhave and Gadomski lead the conference in several statistical categories, with Tomhave boasting the highest batting average (.421) and on-base percentage (.531), while Gadomski ranks first in doubles (23), hits (59), and at-bats (144).
