The Illinois Wesleyan University's baseball team secured a narrow 3-2 victory against Millikin University in a midweek game held at Horenberger Field. This win improved Illinois Wesleyan's overall record to 20-12 and 12-4 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, while Millikin fell to 15-18 overall and 5-9 in the conference standings.
The Titans took an early lead when senior Justin Gadomski walked, followed by senior Cade Tomhave's single. A sacrifice fly by senior Jimmy Gurgone brought in the first run. The team's advantage expanded in the fifth inning, with junior Jack Flagg hitting a double to advance junior Gage Wolfe. Senior Tyler Woltman and Flagg both scored on sacrifice flies, giving Illinois Wesleyan a 3-0 lead.
Millikin responded in the sixth inning, cutting the deficit with a run scored after a double play that restricted further damage. Adding pressure in the ninth, a two-out home run by Millikin brought the score closer. However, junior Luke Costello secured the win by striking out the final batter.
Wolfe contributed significantly with two hits and a run, while Woltman, Hudik, and senior Tristan Figus each drove in a run. Flagg recorded a double, marking the only extra-base hit for the Titans in the game.
Junior Jake Pullam pitched six innings for Illinois Wesleyan, striking out seven and earning his fifth win. Costello was effective in relief, pitching the final three innings and earning a save.
Next, Illinois Wesleyan will face Eastern Illinois University in a non-conference game on Wednesday, April 23, with the match scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at Coaches Stadium in Charleston, Illinois.
