Eureka High School students Vivian Neukomm and Kinley Stoller took part in the Poetry Out Loud 2025 Illinois State Contest in March. Both students were regional contest winners, emerging from a program that started last fall and included nearly 8,000 students, 201 teachers, and 48 high schools across Illinois.

The contest featured seven regional competitions before narrowing down to 14 participants at the State Contest, hosted by the Springfield Area Arts Council. Students, including Neukomm and Stoller, showcased their skills in reciting works by classic and contemporary poets.

The Poetry Out Loud initiative, backed by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, aims to enhance high school students' analytical, memorization, and presentation abilities, providing an enriching educational experience.

Participants of the Poetry Out Loud 2025 Illinois State Contest, including both Vivian and Kinley, are highlighted in a video produced by UMedia.
