Illinois State University triumphed over UIC in a resumed game after a 32-day delay, securing a sweep in their MVC series at Marian Kneer Stadium. The initial game was postponed due to heavy rain, stopping play in the top of the fifth inning with a 4-4 tie. The Redbirds managed to edge out the Flames with a 5-4 score once the game continued.

The completion of this series marks the third MVC series sweep for the Redbirds, adding UIC to their victories over Bradley and Valparaiso. The Redbirds have won seven of their last 10 matches.

Offensive highlights included Lexie Griffin, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI, and Ella Boyer, who contributed with a 1-for-2, two walks, and two RBIs. Bella Atkinson also had an on-field presence with two runs.

In pitching, Hannah Meshnick delivered three innings, allowing five hits and four runs, only one of which was earned. Hannah Meeks, who earned the win, pitched four innings with just one hit.

The game had a slow start, with UIC taking a 2-0 lead in the third inning. The Redbirds responded with an RBI single by Boyer. UIC extended their lead to 4-1 in the fourth, but ISU answered by tying it up through strategic play, including scoring on wild pitches. Post-resumption, Meeks aided the team by holding off UIC in the fifth, and Griffin’s decisive double in the sixth inning secured the win.

The Redbirds are set to conclude the regular season against Murray State in a series starting Friday at 5 p.m. Updates and news about Illinois State Softball can be found on their social media channels and their app, which also offers information on tickets and more.
