Tucci Stadium | Illinois Wesleyan Titans
For the second consecutive year, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team is set to face Elmhurst University in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament championship game. The match is scheduled for Saturday, May 3, at Tucci Stadium in Bloomington, with a noon start time.
Illinois Wesleyan, holding the No. 1 seed with a 13-2 record, advanced to the title game following a win against fourth-seeded North Central College. The semifinal, held on Wednesday, April 30, concluded with a 15-12 victory for the Titans. Sophomore Timothy McHugh led his team with seven points, logging four goals and three assists. Contributions also came from fifth-year player Ike Eastburn, who recorded four points, and senior Sam Weinberg, with three goals. On defense, senior goalie Colin Tervo made 17 saves, while junior Karsten Nordlie accounted for three caused turnovers and senior Nick Schroeder secured seven ground balls.
Elmhurst University, the No. 2 seed, matches Illinois Wesleyan's record at 13-2. They secured their place in the final after a commanding 14-5 win over Carthage College, the third seed, in their semifinal matchup.
Illinois Wesleyan is aiming for its seventh CCIW Tournament title. Elmhurst, ranked 20th in the NCAA's recent NPI rankings, is making its third appearance in the championship game but has yet to claim a title. Notably, both previous appearances against the Titans include last year's close 12-11 overtime match, concluded by fifth-year Gage Black's winning goal.
Historically, Illinois Wesleyan leads the series against Elmhurst 14-1. The Titans have won 13 straight games against the Bluejays, including a 12-11 victory on April 19, after a significant comeback.
