The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team is set to host the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament from May 7-10, following their first regular season championship win since 2013. The Titans, who hold a record of 26-13 overall and 16-4 in the CCIW, are the top seed for the tournament. They will face the lowest remaining seed on Thursday, May 8, at Jack Horenberger Field.
The tournament kicks off with Millikin University playing Wheaton College at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7. Following that game, Carthage College will take on North Park University around 5:30 p.m.
Head coach Michael Kellar has been named CCIW Coach of the Year in his debut season. Under his leadership, eight Titans players have received All-CCIW honors. Seniors Cade Tomhave and Justin Gadomski, along with junior Jake Pullam, were selected for the First Team All-CCIW. Other players recognized include seniors Tyler Woltman and Jimmy Gurgone, juniors Gage Wolfe and Jack Flagg, and sophomore John Philip Ferraro as second team all-conference selections.
The Titans ended their regular season by sweeping Carthage in three games to clinch the conference title outright. This achievement brought the CCIW Tournament back to Bloomington for the first time since 2013.
Illinois Wesleyan leads the league with a .333 batting average this season. Tomhave boasts a .386 batting average with an on-base percentage of .483. Gadomski leads Division III with 26 doubles this season and has hit .384 overall.
On the pitching side, Pullam stands out with a 6-0 record and a 2.44 ERA over 51.2 innings pitched. He has struck out 48 batters while limiting opponents to a .202 batting average.
This marks Illinois Wesleyan's eighth time hosting the conference tournament since its inception in 1989. The Titans aim for their seventh CCIW Tournament Championship win as they seek an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
