The Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police, and over 200 law enforcement agencies in the state are taking part in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Click It or Ticket” campaign. The initiative aims to enforce seat belt laws and prevent impaired driving during Memorial Day weekend.

During this period, authorities will increase their efforts to ticket motorists not wearing seat belts and arrest drivers under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other substances. "IDOT, ISP: Buckle up and drive sober. It could save your life during Memorial Day holiday travel," is the message being emphasized.

In a separate incident, police officers injured in Fairview Heights last weekend remain in recovery following an attack. "Please keep the police officers injured in Fairview Heights last weekend in your prayers as they recover from this heinous attack," was urged alongside recognition for first responders' bravery.

Representative Tipsword criticized the SAFE-T Act on the House Floor earlier this week, citing it as an example of failed legislation by Democrats that endangers public safety. "It’s time to repeal this awful legislation," he stated.

Additionally, Rep. Tipsword welcomed students from St. Mary’s Pontiac who visited him at the Capitol in Springfield this week.

Congratulations were extended to Jodi Martin and the Livingston County Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors for opening a new facility in Fairbury with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held recently.

Illinois turkey hunters experienced a record-breaking spring season with over 18,000 birds harvested statewide.

Rep. Tipsword addressed immigration issues under Governor Pritzker's administration where over $3 billion has been allocated for services to migrants and illegal immigrants while essential services remain underfunded. He claimed that sanctuary state policies have cost taxpayers billions without enhancing community safety. House Republicans continue advocating for immigration reform prioritizing working families and seniors’ needs over those of illegal immigrants.

Nominations are open for the Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame until June 2 for individuals making notable contributions to their communities.

Finally, Memorial Day serves as a day of remembrance honoring those who sacrificed their lives for U.S. freedoms; it is encouraged to be observed with respect and gratitude.
