Illinois State University's soccer team achieved its third consecutive shutout with a 2-0 victory over IU-Indy on Thursday at Adelaide Street Field.
Freshman Rylann Law scored both goals, finding the net in the 32nd and 63rd minutes. This performance made Law the first freshman from Illinois State to score twice in one game since Hannah Mueller did so in September 2018 against Western Illinois. Law currently leads the Missouri Valley Conference for most goals by a freshman this season and has scored in three straight games, a streak not seen since Rachel Tejada’s five-game scoring run.
The Redbirds have recorded at least 17 shots per match over their last three games, marking the longest such streak under head coach Raleigh DeRose. The last time Illinois State had a similar stretch was during the 2020-21 season.
In Thursday’s match, Illinois State outshot IU-Indy 4-1 in the opening half hour before Law's first goal. The team continued to create chances but went into halftime up by only one goal. In the second half, they outshot IU-Indy 11-4 but did not add to their lead after Law's second score.
The current three-game shutout streak is Illinois State’s longest since its five straight shutouts in 2019.
