Illinois Wesleyan men’s soccer draws with Knox after late equalizer

The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw against Knox College on Saturday, September 6, in Galesburg, Illinois. With this result, Illinois Wesleyan's record stands at 2-0-1 for the season, while Knox remains winless at 0-0-2.

Illinois Wesleyan took an early lead when sophomore Ben Lyons scored in the eighth minute, marking his third goal of the season. Knox responded with goals in the 23rd and 74th minutes to take a 2-1 advantage.

Late in the match, senior Peter Basta had a shot saved by the Knox goalkeeper. Following a throw-in and two free kicks, senior Cristian Schmidt scored to tie the game. The Titans pressed for another goal with four shots in the final ten minutes but were unable to break the deadlock.

Illinois Wesleyan is scheduled to play its next match at Blackburn College on Wednesday, September 10, with kickoff set for 4 p.m.
