Illinois Wesleyan cross country prepares for Redbird Invite after strong season opener

After a brief break, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete at the Redbird Invite on Friday, September 12. The event will be hosted by Illinois State University at Weibring Golf Club in Bloomington, Illinois. The men's 8k race is scheduled for 9 a.m., followed by the women's 6k competition at 9:45 a.m.

The Titans opened their season with the Titan Opener on August 29, where both teams performed strongly. Seniors (Mount Vernon, Ill.-Webber) and (Normal, Ill.-University High) led their respective races, with Hamerski securing his first career win and Crabtree earning her second career title. Crabtree was also named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Runner of the Week on September 3 following her performance.

On the women's team, freshman (Spring Grove, Ill.-Richmond Burton), seniors (Chicago, Ill.-Marist) and (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia), along with sophomore (Algonquin, Ill.-Dundee-Crown), finished in the top five during the Titan Opener. For the men’s team, senior (Minneapolis, Minn.-Washburn) placed second while sophomores (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) and (Mt. Zion, Ill.-Mt. Zion) took fourth and fifth places.

Illinois Wesleyan will compete against six other schools: Chicago State, Illinois State, Northern Iowa, Southeast Missouri State, Wartburg, and Western Illinois.
