Illinois Wesleyan University's men's soccer team secured a 1-0 win against Kalamazoo College in their home opener at Neis Field on Saturday, September 13. With this result, the Titans' record moves to 5-0-1, while Kalamazoo's falls to 2-3-0.

The only goal of the match came early, as sophomore Ben Lyons scored in the third minute. Junior Joey Rodino volleyed the ball into the box, where Lyons controlled it and finished with his right foot past Kalamazoo's goalkeeper.

Throughout the first half, Illinois Wesleyan's defense allowed only four shots from Kalamazoo. The Titans' offense continued to apply pressure, with Lyons and senior Logan Tierney pushing forward for additional chances. A blocked shot from Lyons was followed by an effort from Tierney that was stopped by a group save from Kalamazoo defenders.

Illinois Wesleyan finished with 14 shots overall and seven on target. Lyons attempted four shots, including two free kicks that were saved.

Defensively, senior captain Nick McCully, junior Jackson Colman, and senior Kalabi Kamau contributed to keeping Kalamazoo off the scoreboard. Senior goalkeeper Sam Kedzior had two saves and played an active role in disrupting passes.

The match included five yellow cards—two for Illinois Wesleyan and three for Kalamazoo—reflecting its competitive nature.

Illinois Wesleyan will continue its five-game homestand by hosting Illinois College on Wednesday, September 17 at Neis Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
