Three members of the Illinois State Redbirds men's tennis team won their singles flights at the River Forest Collegiate Tennis Invitational on Saturday, despite weather delays that affected some doubles matches in the morning.
Tomas Valencia secured a championship in Draw No. 1 by defeating Alessandro Hernandez (DU) 6-3, 6-0. In Draw No. 3, Christian Capacci overcame Jeremy Sieben (WU) with a score of 2-6, 6-2, 10-7. Tin Ostro completed the trio of champions for Illinois State by winning against Luke Coppage (MU) 6-4, 6-2 in Draw No. 4.
Other notable results included Manuel Pavia and Caden Scarlett each earning third place in their respective singles flights—Draws No. 6 and No. 7—while Jett Leong finished fifth in Draw No. 5 after beating Adan Tarquino (DU) 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (7). Adrian Dibildox was runner-up in Draw No. 2 following a loss to Lucas Ho (WMU), with scores of 5-7, 6-4, and 10-3.
In doubles play, Valencia and Dibidox recorded the sole victory for the Redbirds by defeating A.Aleksychuk/E.Nokic (UIC) 6-3.
Illinois State is scheduled to host the annual Redbird Invitational from October 3–5 at the Gregory Street Courts in Normal.
