Illinois Wesleyan men’s golf holds narrow lead after first round at Wrigglesworth Invitational

Illinois Wesleyan University's men's golf team leads after the first round of the Wrigglesworth Invitational, held Sunday at Eau Claire Country Club in Wisconsin. The Titans posted a team score of 297, putting them one stroke ahead of Saint John's (Minn.) and UW-Eau Claire.

Senior Aidan Healy, competing with Illinois Wesleyan's 'B' squad, finished the opening round in third place individually after shooting a one-under 70. Senior Michael Spitzer is tied for seventh with a score of 72.

The competition remains close among the top teams. Only four shots separate the leading six teams. Both Illinois Wesleyan's 'B' team and UW-Stout recorded scores of 300, while UW-Superior is sixth with a score of 301.

The tournament will conclude Monday with a final round beginning at 8:30 a.m., using a shotgun start format at Eau Claire Country Club.

Team standings after round one are as follows: Illinois Wesleyan leads with a score of 297; Saint John's (Minn.) and UW-Eau Claire are tied for second at 298; Illinois Wesleyan 'B' and UW-Stout share fourth place at 300; and UW-Superior is sixth at 301.
