The Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team won the Wrigglesworth Invitational at Eau Claire Country Club in Wisconsin on Monday. The Titans, ranked fourth nationally, recorded a final round score of 288, which was the best team round of the day. This performance allowed them to finish five strokes ahead of their own 'B' squad, which placed second.
Illinois Wesleyan's 'A' and 'B' teams led the field with 36-hole totals of 585 (297-288) and 593 (300-293), respectively. Saint John's University (Minnesota) finished third with a total score of 596. Rounding out the top five were UW-Stout at 598 and UW-Eau Claire at 600.
Gavin Grahek from Saint John's (Minn.) won individual medalist honors with a one-under total of 141. Senior Aidan Healy, competing for Illinois Wesleyan's 'B' team, was the top finisher for the Titans. Healy finished runner-up after posting a one-over-par 72 in his final round, ending even for the tournament with a total score of 142.
Seniors Myles Lahart and Michael Spitzer also performed well for Illinois Wesleyan, tying for fifth place at four-over-par. Freshman Jared Code finished seventh at five-over-par. Sophomore Pablo Castro tied for tenth after shooting a final-round 70—the only under-par round in the field on Monday.
The Titans will next compete at the NCAA Division III Preview hosted by Mission Inn Resort + Spa in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. That event is scheduled to take place from Sunday to Tuesday, September 21-23.
