The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team secured its fourth consecutive win with a 4-1 victory over Westminster College on Wednesday night in Fulton, Missouri. The Titans improved their season record to 4-2-0, while the Blue Jays dropped to 2-3-0.
Illinois Wesleyan generated several scoring opportunities in the first half, recording seven shots on goal. Sophomore Liza Wiley was the first to score for the Titans after receiving a cross from junior Sophie Lampert in the 28th minute.
Westminster responded early in the second half, tying the match at 1-1 in the 49th minute. Less than two minutes later, senior Bree Cordray regained the lead for Illinois Wesleyan by scoring her third career goal following a throw-in that created confusion in front of Westminster's net.
The Titans extended their advantage in the 62nd minute when Keira Robinson sent a pass toward Wiley, who then assisted Lampert for Illinois Wesleyan's third goal. The team maintained pressure throughout most of the second half and added a fourth goal in the 80th minute when Emily Kunzer scored after maneuvering around her defender.
Goalkeeper Vanessa Gray played 82 minutes and made two saves before Ella Randall finished out the game. Illinois Wesleyan recorded ten shots on goal compared to Westminster’s three.
The Titans will conclude their road trip with a match against Trine University on Saturday, September 20, scheduled for noon Eastern Time in Angola, Indiana.
