McLean County has announced the passing of Luke Stremlau, Director of the Bloomington Election Commission, after a brief illness.

Mr. Stremlau was recognized for his service to the Bloomington Election Commission and to local residents. The county stated, "Mr. Stremlau faithfully served the Bloomington Election Commission and the residents of our community with professionalism, dedication, and integrity. His commitment to fair, transparent elections and his openness for stronger collaboration have left an impact on local governance and public service."

The county added, "We join his family, colleagues, and friends in mourning this loss and in honoring his contributions to our community."

The Bloomington Election Commission is responsible for overseeing elections within Bloomington. The county’s public schools have a student-to-teacher ratio of 14-to-1 for the 2022-23 school year, with 22,663 students and 1,628 full-time faculty members. Normal Community High School had the highest enrollment of white students among the county’s 53 schools during the 2022-23 year, with 1,235 students.
