Illinois State University's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak in conference play to six games after a 0-0 draw against UIC on Sunday at Adelaide Street Field. The result also keeps the Redbirds unbeaten in their last eight matches overall and marks the first tie between Illinois State and UIC in their all-time series.
The match was notable for being Illinois State's sixth scoreless draw of the season, bringing their total shutouts to 10. This achievement ties the third-highest number of shutouts in a single season for the program and is the most since 2019. Redshirt sophomore Madi Valenti recorded her 14th career shutout, moving past Sasha Reiber (2008-09) for fifth place in program history.
During the first half, Illinois State created early opportunities with two corner kicks and two shots within the opening 20 minutes. The Redbirds continued to apply pressure, outshooting UIC 4-2 by halftime but were unable to score.
In the second half, UIC increased its offensive efforts, forcing two saves from Valenti early on. Illinois State responded with four more shots later in the game but could not secure a goal before time expired.
Overall, Illinois State outshot UIC 9-7. This marks the fifth consecutive game that Illinois State has had more shots than its opponent, which is their longest such streak this season.
Illinois State will play its final home game of the 2025 season at Adelaide Street Field against Drake on Thursday, October 23. The match is scheduled for a 4 p.m. kickoff and will be available to watch on ESPN+.
