Rep. Dan Brady (R-Bloomington) recently led the Illinois House in honoring Fairbury City Superintendent Leroy McPherson, who will retire at the end of June after 55 years of service to his community, according to a press release.
The House unanimously passed House Resolution 476, recognizing McPherson’s commitment to civic service and the City of Fairbury and wishing him the best in his future endeavors, which, according to the resolution, will still include work in the community. Brady presented McPherson with a copy of the resolution in Fairbury.
McPherson began his career with the city in 1972 and has had a lasting impact on Fairbury in the intervening five decades. In 1977 he was part of the team that designed and built the city’s wastewater treatment plant, and in 1995, as the city’s public works administrator, he oversaw the installation of Fairbury’s water tower.

McPherson has also long been a member of the Fairbury Fire Department. He joined the department in 1975, serving as a firefighter, and over the years has risen to hold both the department’s assistant chief and chief positions.
According to the resolution, McPherson, a native Fairbury resident, “has always believed in doing all he can for his community.”
