Pontiac FD responds to 66 fires in 2017

Pontiac Fire Department responded to 137 calls in 2017 - 2.1 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Pontiac included 66 fires - 30 structure fires, eight vehicle fires and 28 other fires. The fire department also responded to five calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $242,475 in fire loss - or about $3,674 per fire.

The department also received 66 false calls.

The Pontiac Fire Department had an annual budget of $573,268 in 2017.

The Pontiac Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 13 active employees and 11 retired or inactive employees, was $300,618 in debt as of March 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $4,697 for every fire in 2016.
