McLean County Unit District No. 5 Board of Education met June 19.

Attendees: Dayna Brown, Mark Daniel, Meta Mickens-Baker, Kelly Pyle
Old Business:
A. Diversity
1. 40 administrators attended diversity training, Equity and Leadership, presented by Corrine Wallace on June 13th, was held at the district office.
2. Meta, Darrin Cooper, Dayna and Ray met with individuals that had spoken at the school board meetings, to discuss concerns presented. Guests provided recommendations about what they would like to see happen in the district. They will plan to reconvene in August after Darrin has a chance to review district data. Intention to assemble Diversity Advocacy Committee or Equity Advisory Committee.
3. Dayna introduced Tennessee Leaders for Equity Playbook, adopted by the state of Tennessee, to review to determine if actions can be taken and implemented by Unit 5. After reviewing information and working with parents and educators, will work together to update the strategic plan to include these goals and action items.
B. Strategic Plan
1. Slowing down the process at this time. WIll continue to look at the plan through the fall.
C. Restorative Practices
1. Need for schools to share/communicate terminology and practices that are taken place at school and how they are being handled. “What is restorative practice and why do we use it?”
Plans moving forward:
1. Restorative practice explanation and understanding--letter sent district wide- with each building being able to edit as needed
2. Could add some of the terminology on Unit 5 webpage with links available (as needed). For example CAC-Citizens Advisory Council (with link to website)
3. Committee will review material presented with ideas going forward to strategic plan, diversity committee and plans for upcoming CAC.
4. Finalize CAC calendar and set meeting dates
