Pontiac FD responds to 70 fires in 2018

Pontiac Fire District responded to 155 calls in 2018 - 13.1 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Pontiac included 70 fires - 32 structure fires, 12 vehicle fires and 26 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $250,501 in fire loss - or about $3,579 per fire.

The department also received 82 false calls, including one malicious call and 81 other false calls.

The Pontiac Fire District had an annual budget of $318,725 in 2018.

The Pontiac Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 11 active employees and 14 retired or inactive employees, was $91,860 in debt as of March 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,392 for every fire in 2017.
