Illinois Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) recently sent her congratulations to a local student who earned a Skills USA championship.
Rezin sent a shout out to the champion, writing 'Congratulations, Robert Osborn!' in an Aug. 23 Facebook post.
Osborn brought home the title of SkillsUSA Illinois State Champion for Criminal Justice in April, a recent Morris Herald-News release said. The Morris City Council recognized his efforts and achievement in an early August meeting.
“He’s a great young man,” Mayor Chris Brown said in the release. “He’s done a tremendous job at all of these competitions, and it’s just great to have kids that are doing well and excelling at the things they want to be doing in life. So, we are very fortunate and we are hoping we can even get him down the line.”
The Criminal Justice competition includes a written test and practical exams to judge a student's knowledge of the field of criminal justice, SkillsUSA Illinois said on its website. The competition is for students who are preparing to become police officers or for working in other areas of criminal justice.
“Nationals had a lot more than state at roughly six competitions, where we did something along the lines as a suspect interview, a 911 hangup, a disturbance between two people that just had a traffic accident-it was more treacherous than state, but it was more enjoyable,” Osborn told the Herald-News.
