Women’s Cross Country Looks Ahead to CCIW Championships

With the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin cross country championships on the horizon, the Illinois Wesleyan University cross country team is predicted to finish in fourth place according to the league's annual coaches poll. The 6k championship is set for Saturday, Oct. 29 at St. James Forest Preserve in Warrenville, Ill. that will be hosted by Elmhurst University. Directions to the preserve can be found by clicking here. The race is scheduled for a noon shotgun start. Additionally, the "open" race is set for 1:30 p.m.

Millikin (one first-place vote) secured 53 points, good for second, while North Central (49 points) rounds out the top three. Augustana and Carthage tied for fifth-place, as each school notched 28 points. Elmhurst (24 points), Carroll (23 points), and North Park (eight points) complete the rankings.

Each institution is allowed to have up to 10 runners in the varsity race, for a maximum field of 90 athletes. However, only five times from each school will be recorded and counted towards the team score. The top 10 finishers will be named to the first-team All-CCIW, while the 11-20 place runners will be a part of the second All-CCIW team.

Sophomore Annalese Chudy (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) currently owns the fastest 6k mark in the conference with her time of 22:32.0 that was produced at the Augustana Interregional Invitational on Oct. 15. This pace earned the Libertyville, Ill. native the 15th-fastest time in IWU history. Chudy's time is 7.9 seconds clear of the rest of the conference as Wheaton's Alyssa Mantia is second in the CCIW with a pace of 22:39.9.

Results from the meet will be posted to IWUsports.com upon the conclusion of both races.
