City of Fairbury City Council met Feb. 1.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, James Tipton, and Bill Schmidgall. Jon Kinate, Bruce Weber and Jerry Hoffman were absent.

3. Pledge of Allegiance

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Hoselton, second by Norris to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the January 18, 2023, council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. Sidewalk request for 408 W Ash St; 200 sq ft @ $2.50/sq ft = $500

F. Overtime Report

Motion carried 5-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Tipton Schmidgall

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:

➢ Brandy Pekarovich came to speak about the 7th Annual Overdose Awareness Memorial Event and 5K 5/13/2023 9AM-2PM at either North or Marsh Park.

6. Reports of Departments

→ Streets & Fire – Martin Steidinger, Superintendent & Fire Chief reported-

• Old City Hall renovations are coming along and the heat is on.

• A water line going up the tower of the ladder truck froze and broke. Fire is in the process of deciding to replace the part themselves, or to hire a company from St Louis.

→ Sewer – Brad Duncan, Superintendent– absent

→ Water – Mike Mellott, Superintendent – absent

→ Police – Robert McCormick, Chief –

• The two newest officers that are part time certified are enrolled in their transition academy in March to get them fully certified and full time.

→ City – Brett Ashburn, Superintendent –

• A project will begin in the spring to install sidewalks on the North side of Wanda Ln from 5th St to the High School. $150,000 has been allocated to the City from the State to complete the project.

→ Legal – Steven Mann, City Attorney – absent

7. Reports of Aldermen

→ Alderman Norris –

• Pool Manager Alex Reis has been working on hiring lifeguards for the upcoming pool season.

→ Alderman Endres – no report

→ Alderman Hoselton – no report

→ Alderman Kinate – absent

→ Alderman Weber – absent

→ Alderman Hoffman – absent

→ Alderman Tipton – no report

→ Alderman Schmidgall – no report

A. Motion by Norris, second by Endres to approve ordinance rezoning 609 E Maple Street

B. Motion by Hoselton, second by Norris to approve purchase of new vehicle.

Motion carried 5-0 Norris Endres Hoselton Tipton Schmidgall

C. Motion by Tipton, second by Schmidgall to approve project plan proposal for Water Treatment Plant. Motion carried 5-0 Norris Endres Hoselton Tipton Schmidgall

D. Motion by Norris, second by Hoselton to approve emergency lighting for fire truck 245.

Motion carried 5-0 YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Tipton Schmidgall

E. Motion by Tipton, second by Endres to approve ordinance chicken coop license amendment. Motion carried 5-0 Norris Endres Hoselton Tipton Schmidgall
