City of Fairbury City Council met March 1.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order at 6:29 p.m.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, Jon Kinate, Jerry Hoffman, James Tipton, and Bill Schmidgall. Bruce Weber was absent.

3. Pledge of Allegiance

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Schmidgall, second by Tipton to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the February 15, 2023, council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. NONE

F. Overtime Report

Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:

6. Reports of Departments

→ Streets & Fire – Martin Steidinger, Superintendent & Fire Chief reported-

• Gave an update on Old City Hall repair status.

• Ladder truck for the Fire Dept was repaired.

→ Sewer – Bruce Pride– absent

→ Water – Mike Mellott, Superintendent – absent

→ Police – Robert McCormick, Chief – none

→ City – Brett Ashburn, Superintendent –

• Inquired about making the City a No Soliciting Zone.

→ Legal – Steven Mann, City Attorney – absent

7. Reports of Aldermen

→ Alderman Norris – no report

→ Alderman Endres –

• Inquired about getting a street light at the new Metro Communications building

→ Alderman Hoselton –none

→ Alderman Kinate –

• Some residents had reached out with concerns and trash questions. Thanked City Superintendent Ashburn and Street Superintendent Steidinger for addressing them.

9. Old Business – Discussion/Action Items

A. Consideration to approve sidewalk project along E Wanda from 5th Street to 7th Street. -After a general discussion with public input, the motion failed for lack of motion.

10. New Business – Discussion/Action Items

A. Motion by Schmidgall second by Kinate to approve removal of lobby phone in City Hall. Motion carried 7-0. YES- Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall
