NORMAL, Ill. – Following a successful 2023-24 season, the Illinois State men's golf team has unveiled its 2024-25 schedule, featuring tournaments at three Big Ten and two Big 12 schools.
The season begins with the Island Resort Intercollegiate on September 1-2. This will be ISU's third appearance at the event after winning in 2022 and finishing second in 2023. Last year, Redbird junior Alex McCulla set a program record for the lowest tournament score, becoming the first Illinois State golfer to shoot under a 200 in a 54-hole tournament at Sage Run Golf Club in Harris, Michigan.
Two weeks later, the team will participate in the Bearcat Invitational hosted by the University of Cincinnati at Coldstream Country Club on September 16-17. The Redbirds finished fourth out of 13 schools two seasons ago and tied for seventh out of 13 schools in 2019.
On September 22-23, the Redbirds will compete in the Purdue Fall Invitational at Kampen Course in West Lafayette, Indiana. Although last year's event was not held at Kampen Course due to Purdue hosting an NCAA Regional, ISU had competed there previously.
The Badger Invitational follows on September 29-October 1 at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisconsin. The Redbirds were runners-up last season after placing third in 2022 and winning the tournament in both 2018 and 2021. The team has participated over the past ten seasons except for fall 2020 due to COVID-19 cancellations.
For their first west coast competition this fall, ISU will head to Monterey, California for the Leadership and Golf Collegiate Championship co-hosted by Saint Mary's and Seattle at Bayonet Black Horse Golf Club.
The spring season kicks off with the Tinervin Cup alumni event hosted at Coral Creek Club in Placida, Florida on January 25.
ISU returns to action on February 17-18 at the Border Olympics where they previously won with a school-record scoring total of 832. Recently graduated golfer Valentin Peugnet became only the second golfer in school history to card a tournament score under 200 with a score of 199.
For consecutive seasons Illinois State will compete in Puerto Rico's Dorado Beach Collegiate from February 23-25. Last year’s team set a school record with a combined score of -22 over two rounds (554), including Felix van Dijk’s individual record of -9 (135).
This marks ISU's fifth straight year competing at Louisiana Classics Invitational hosted by Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette, Louisiana.
