With the first day of competition completed, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team has taken a commanding lead at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship. The team, ranked eighth nationally, recorded an opening round score of 298 at Metamora Fields Golf Course.
Senior Macy Ludwig leads the individual standings with an even-par 71. Her performance included four birdies, two of which were on par-threes. She currently holds a four-stroke advantage over freshman Gigi Zera, who is tied for second place with a score of 75.
Seniors Kylie Hundman and Jadyn Spinks are both tied for fourth place after carding five-over 76s. Sophomore Nora Cerroni and senior Jacque O'Neill also placed within the top-20. Cerroni is tied for 12th in her championship debut, while O'Neill shares 16th place.
The Titans have established a significant lead in the team standings, sitting 19 strokes ahead of North Central with their score of 298. They were the only team to record a sub-300 round on the first day. North Central follows in second place with a score of 317, while Elmhurst is third at 327. Carthage holds fourth place with a score of 330, just one stroke ahead of Augustana's fifth-place score of 331. Carroll (334), Millikin (341), and North Park (369) occupy sixth through eighth places respectively.
