An early deficit proved too large for the Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team to overcome as they faced Hope College on Wednesday evening at Neis Field. The Titans, with a record of 2-6-1, fell behind in the first 11 minutes of play and were unable to recover against the Flying Dutch, who now stand at 4-2-1.

Hope College scored their first goal in the third minute following a turnover by IWU in midfield. This was quickly followed by another goal seven minutes later, extending their lead to 2-0.

Illinois Wesleyan managed to score when freshman Liza Wiley drew a foul outside the box in the 15th minute. Bree Cordray's free kick eventually led to sophomore Sophie Lampert volleying in a goal for IWU.

However, Hope College responded immediately with another goal from a corner kick, bringing the score to 3-1. The Titans attempted a comeback after halftime with Wiley assisting Cordray, who then passed to senior Tegan Timerman. Timerman's effort reduced Hope's lead to one goal early in the second half.

Despite continued pressure and several set-piece opportunities, Illinois Wesleyan could not capitalize further. Hope College secured their victory with goals in the 61st, 62nd, and 79th minutes, resulting in a final score of 6-2.

Freshman goalkeeper Ella Randall recorded a career-high of 11 saves during her time on the field. The Titans trailed Hope significantly in shots and corners but held an advantage during part of the second half.

Illinois Wesleyan will take some time off before starting their College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play during homecoming weekend from October 4th to October 6th. They are scheduled to compete against Carthage College on Saturday at Neis Field.
