The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team faced a defeat in their home opener against Trine University, with a score of 1-0 on Sunday, August 31. This result leaves IWU with a record of 0-2, while Trine stands at 1-1.

Both teams displayed balanced performances during the match. The Titans managed to take 17 shots compared to the Thunder's 18. Each side had six shots on target and earned four corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Grace Kiewiet from Leawood, Kansas played the entire match and made five saves.

Trine's victory was secured in the 17th minute when Bella Mabry scored with a long shot that reached the opposite corner of the net, eluding Kiewiet's reach.

IWU had a promising chance to equalize in the second half. Senior Tegan Timerman attempted a cross pass to freshman Liza Wiley in the box. However, Wiley's shot was saved by Trine's goalkeeper, keeping IWU without a goal.

Looking ahead, IWU will travel to River Forest, Illinois for the Midwest Tournament hosted by Dominican University next weekend. They are set to play against Wartburg on Saturday, September 7 at 1:30 p.m., followed by a match against No. 7 ranked University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Sunday at noon.
