The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team is set to participate in the Midwest Tournament this weekend. The Titans will travel to River Forest, Illinois, where they will face Wartburg College on Saturday at 1:30 p.m., followed by a match against the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Sunday at 12 p.m.
This marks the third consecutive year that Illinois Wesleyan has competed in the Midwest Tournament, with Dominican University hosting this year's event. Although the Titans will not play against Dominican University during this tournament, they are scheduled to meet later in Bloomington.
Illinois Wesleyan is currently adjusting to a new roster. In their recent matches, they were defeated by Simpson College 2-0 on August 30 and by Trine University 1-0 on September 1. Freshman Grace Kiewiet played all 180 minutes in these games and made a total of ten saves over the weekend.
The Titans have a history of playing back-to-back matches against Wartburg and UW-La Crosse since 2021. They have faced Wartburg three times, with Wartburg maintaining an undefeated record in these encounters. Last season, Wartburg hosted the Midwest Tournament and secured a narrow victory over Illinois Wesleyan. This year, Wartburg enters the tournament with a record of 0-2 after close losses to St. Olaf College and Saint Mary's University.
In contrast, Illinois Wesleyan has played UW-La Crosse more frequently since their first meeting in 2017. The Titans trail in their series against UW-La Crosse with two wins, four losses, and one draw. In their most recent encounter last year, UW-La Crosse won decisively. Currently, UW-La Crosse holds a record of 2-0 after victories over UW-Superior and College of St. Scholastica.
