The Illinois State baseball team is preparing for a rematch against Northwestern University on Tuesday in Evanston, Illinois. The Redbirds have been successful in recent non-conference games, winning four out of their last five matches. Northwestern, with a record of 12-23 this season, recently lost all three games in a road series against Illinois.

The two teams have a long history, having faced each other 23 times since 1926. Northwestern currently leads the series with 15 wins to Illinois State's eight. In their first encounter of the year on February 27, Northwestern emerged victorious with a score of 5-1.

Illinois State's sophomore Daniel Pacella has been making headlines with his performance. He secured a win against Indiana State on April 19 with a walk-off home run, marking the team's first walk-off homer since May 2010. Pacella also achieved a notable two-homer game against Missouri State on March 31 and concluded that weekend series with eight RBIs.

The Redbirds have seen weather-related disruptions this season, resulting in the cancellation of games against Saint Louis, Iowa, Illinois, and SIUE. Their current schedule consists of 53 games, leaving room to add up to three more to reach the maximum allowed.
