Illinois State's baseball team secured a decisive 10-0 victory over Southern Illinois in the opening game of their weekend series at Duffy Bass Field. The Redbirds, now holding a record of 22-22 overall and 10-9 in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC), were propelled by redshirt junior Judah Morris, who contributed three hits and three RBIs.
Southern Illinois' record fell to 26-20 overall and 9-10 in the MVC following this loss.
The scoring began for Illinois State with consecutive home runs from junior Noah Rabin and Morris in the second inning. In the fifth inning, the Redbirds expanded their lead with an RBI single by sophomore Luke Lawrence, followed by a three-run homer from senior Auggie Rasmussen, bringing the score to 6-0.
The team continued to dominate by adding two more runs each in the sixth and seventh innings, securing their run-rule victory.
Notable performances included Rabin and Morris achieving back-to-back home runs for the first time since May 2022. Lawrence extended his on-base streak to 30 games, marking the longest streak for a Redbird since Derek Parola's 33-game streak in 2019. Rasmussen and Rabin now lead the team with 11 home runs each this season.
The series continues Saturday at 1:00 p.m. CT as Illinois State hosts its annual Bark in the Park promotion. Fans can follow updates on GoRedbirds.com or through various social media platforms.
