Illinois State University baseball team secured a 7-1 victory over Southern Illinois at Duffy Bass Field on Saturday. This win marks their second consecutive series triumph against the Salukis.
The Redbirds, with an overall record of 23-22 and 11-9 in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC), were led by senior Auggie Rasmussen, who contributed three hits. Junior Noah Rabin also played a crucial role with three RBIs during the game.
Southern Illinois' record now stands at 26-21 overall and 9-11 in the MVC.
The game saw Illinois State take an early lead with a solo home run by Rabin in the second inning, marking his 12th home run of the season. The Salukis tied the score at 1-1 in the third inning with a sacrifice fly.
In the fourth inning, Illinois State scored three runs from four consecutive hits, including an RBI double by sophomore Shai Robinson and RBI singles by junior JT Sokolove and sophomore Luke Lawrence, bringing the score to 4-1.
The Redbirds continued to extend their lead with additional runs in the fifth, seventh, and eighth innings, concluding the game at 7-1.
Luke Lawrence extended his on-base streak to 31 games with his RBI single in the fourth inning. Junior Tanner Perry was credited with the win after pitching seven innings, allowing one run and striking out four batters.
The series will conclude on Sunday with a game scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT at Duffy Bass Field.
